Past Performance and Interviewing

In the Life on the Buy Side Interview Guide I spend time discussing the need to present a wide array of past accomplishments as your key to standing out from the crowd.

Given this belief, I was pleased to see Seth Godin (I suspect I am the only portfolio manager who reads his work) post about this exact same need to present past performance as the key to future performance. As usual, though, his brevity and wit far exceed mine so I present Seth Godin's key to interviewing:

"If you believe that pleasant interviewing skills, a good handshake or the right outfit are a better predictor of future performance than what the person has actually shipped in the past, I think it's worth pointing out that you're nuts."
